BOOTS & BOWS TURNED 50 By
Bill Ellingson
The Boots and Bows Square Dance Club wish to thank the fellow
square dancers who joined in our 50th Celebration. The 17 plus
square danced to the fine calling of Mike Seastrom and the cueing
of Jerry Miller.
The refreshments were a sit down dinner of El Pollo Loco
chicken with all the trimmings. The Boots and Bows wanted all
present to remember the occasion in a good light. I am sure that
they have made an impression on those attending.
The Club was one of the first in the area to welcome singles
and though they never did a single rotation, the singles dance
sometimes more than the wives do.
Come join us and judge for yourselves. We dance the 2nd and
4th Fridays in Torrance.
BOOTS & SLIPPERS
The Boots and Slippers will again host their Guide Dogs of America
Benefit Dance. Dick Hodnefield will be calling along with guest
callers. There will be Food, Live Auctions, Silent Auctions, and
Drawings. The date is June 3rd from 8pm to 10pm at the Simi Sr.
Center, 3900 Avenida Simi in Simi Valley. For information call
805-527-7971. Pre-sale is $5.00
BUCKLES AND BOWS
The Buckles and Bows will be holding their Dance for
Manna to benefit their community's families in need. The date is
May 27th at the Borchard Community Center, corner of Borchard &
Reino Road in Newberry Park. They are asking for donations of
non-perishable food, paper products, toiletries, diapers, etc.
BUTTONS AND BOWS
The Buttons and Bows had over 50 club members, class
students, and friends attend the Curtain Call Dinner Theater in
February. It seems lots of clubs are including their class
members in club activities. We think this is a great way to show
new dancers what fun square dancers have on and off the dance
floor.
CHURCH MICE
The Church Mice will again run their food booth at the
Tustin Street Fair in June.
CYPRESS TWIRLERS
The Cypress Twirlers are planning a social event at the
Los Alamitos Race Track. This will be an evening at the races,
including a buffet, in the outside balcony at the finish line.
HAPPY SQUARES OF SIMI
The Happy Squares had over 50 dancers (this is quantity
they say, not necessarily age) counting class and club members
attend the Bakersfield Fiesta.
HEELS AND SOULS
The Heels and Souls dance on the 1st and 3rd Fridays of
the month. They try to support their neighboring club, The Red
Ribbons on the 2nd and 4th Saturday. They didn't know what to do
with those 5th Fridays. So, they decided they will have an
evening of friendship, food, fun and games with door prizes and
hold it at their square dance hall. A catered dinner will be
served on the indoor patio. After dinner they will move to a
different room for the rest of the social program.
HONEYCOMBERS
The Honeycombers report that A square D's Senior
Director, Edrea McCreary, visited their dance on March 4th. What
they really said was she is very vivacious and exciting. She kept
the squares she danced in moving right along all night. It was
also reported that her meetings in the Orange District this past
year as Orange District Director where "Happy Meetings". If you
think her meetings are happy you should go on the High Fliers
trips with her. That's really exciting.
HUGGIN' HEARTS
The Huggin' Hearts have included Singles Rotation, Line
Dancing, and Great Buffets at their club dances on the first
Saturday of each month.
LADS 'N' LASSIES
The Lads 'N' Lassies had over a square of "Youth" at
the CITY OF HOPE benefit dance in March. Susan Tresner reports
she danced in the first square with them and Mike Seastrom as her
partner. She says it was a terrific square and hardly any
mistakes. Not only did the youth dance the first two hours of
mainstream but they continued on into the plus level squares. The
club is really proud of them.
ORANGE COAST LARIATS
The Lariats are trying something different when it
comes to visiting club announcements. Since the refreshments are
served and often enjoyed away from the main dance hall at the
Cedarbrook hall, they are inviting the clubs to make their
announcement individually just before the start of tips. They
feel that this is a courtesy to those who have information to
share with the dancers.
RAMBLIN' ROGUES
The Rogues are holding a different kind of workshop for
the summer. This workshop will be suited for vacationing
dancers. Each week will stand alone with a different callers.
Included in their list of callers are David Mee, Doug Houston,
Eileen Silvia, John Hill, Mickey Blunk, Pat Carnathan and Tim
Pepper. Check out their website for more information at
www.ramblinrogoues.us
. All dancers are welcome.
RIPSNORTERS
The Ripsnorters are doing something a little different
this summer. For their June, July, and August dances they will
have mainstream tips alternating with plus. They will also have
an A1 tip. Their July 15th dance will have a continuous Luau
Buffet at no extra charge. Diane Schreiber is hosting it so we
know it will look and taste great. Diane and Ginny Cordell do the
Hospitality Room for the A Square D Jamborees.
SIERRA HILLBILLIES
The Hillbillies have found a way to help out their
club's treasury. One of their club members, Peggy Alfeld, who is
also a Past President of A Square D, donated some great square
dance clothes to be sold on E-Bay. The money is really helping to
build their club treasury. This might be a good idea for other
clubs to consider.
SHIRTS 'N SKIRTS
This club is planning an outing for their club and
class members at the Merlin's Magic Dinner Show in Orange, where
they will enjoy a magic show, great food and good company. They
are also holding a Rummage Sale in June and their annual "Picnic
in the Park" in July.
TRAIL DUSTERS
The Trail Dusters had a PERFECT DAY. The club members
departed the valley around noon taking two buses to Long Beach.
They played games along the way. One bus took a group to Naples
where they went on gondolas and were serenaded by gondoliers. The
other group enjoyed a private, behind the scenes tour of the
magnificent Queen Mary. Afterwards, everybody joined up at the
Long Beach Hilton where appetizers were served followed by
dinner. Then a fabulous show presented by the Trail Duster
Thespians (actually volunteers) they say was a hoot. There was
lots of laughter from all present. They held their clubs
installation and then it was off to the buses for their ride back
to the valley.
4TH OF JULY PARADE HUNTINGTON BEACH
Again this year the Square Dancers will be involved in
the Huntington Beach 4th of July Parade. The callers will be LEE
SCHMIDT AND BILL 'TEX' GIPSON. The participating dancers from the
last two years have really enjoyed showing off our great hobby of
Square Dancing. The dancers meet at 8778 El Lago St. in Fountain
Valley to be bused to the beginning of the Parade route. The bus
will meet the dancers at the end of the route and bring them back
to their cars. There is a $6.00 fee for the bus but it is will
worth it to not have to walk back to get your car at the beginning
of the Parade route. After the Parade, the dancers all meet at
Mimi's for lunch. Come out and join them. You'll have a BLAST.
Edrea McCreary, one of the A Square D Senior Directors started
this great publicity event. For more information, give her a call
at 714-843-0140.
